We have been in business for over 39 years, and have been trading online for several years.
The business is owned and managed by Terry Lonergan and his wife Pat.
Terry and Pat established the COMPLETE RUNNER in Ilkley, West Yorkshire in the early eighties just prior to the “running boom”. Formerly trading under the banner of Terry Lonergan Sports, the business encompassed both ‘The Complete Runner’ and ‘Fastrax’- the latter giving its name to our exclusive brand of athletics clothing. While the name Terry Lonergan Sports has now been dropped, both sides of the business remain – now under the umbrella of The Complete Runner Ltd. Complete Runner was established with the aim of providing runners of all standards with a comprehensive range of the best running products on the market. That philosophy remains to this day, our extensive product range always keeping pace with the very latest developments in running.
After over 25 years in the business, frequently working 7 days a week, things had to change and Terry Lonergan himself is not now in the shop on a daily basis. However, he remains firmly in control and as familiar and committed to the sport as ever. He pops in at least once a week so you might strike it lucky to meet him if your ever passing and drop in.
Terry is an accomplished and passionate runner who has raced competitively in all disciplines including fell, trail, cross country, track and on the roads. With two marathon wins and three half marathon wins now a distant memory, and PBs very much a thing of the past, like so many it would have been easy to give up on the competitive side of running. Complete Runner also has a thriving mail order department is based at our store in Ilkley. All of our staff are involved with running, many like ‘the boss’ have a lifetime of experience. You can be assured of unrivalled advice from these knowledgeable staff, who strive to provide our customers with the highest level of professional advice and personal service.
Our online store has one of the most comprehensive ranges of running shoes, clothing and accessories available anywhere in the UK. Products purchased from the site can be delivered directly to you or collected personally in-store. Whichever way you choose, we look forward to supplying you with the products which will contribute to your performance and enjoyment of running.

We are situated on the main A65 road at the Ben Rhydding side of Ilkley with ample free private parking to the front and side of the building. Our shop is a large white building at the end of a row of terraced houses, right on the roadside.
From the East (Leeds/Bradford)
We are on the left about 1 mile past the Kashmiri Aroma restaurant (formerly Little Chef) which is near the end of the Burley by-pass. We are just past the Tesco petrol station – on the same side of the road.
From the West (Keighley/Skipton)
We are on the right about 1.5 miles from the traffic lights in the centre of Ilkley, in the direction of Leeds. Look out for the Texaco petrol station – we are just a few yards past it on the opposite side.
